Your course is such a smart idea. It would be great if you could share your curriculum and resources.
If you need ideas, you might talk with your yearbook advisor. As the yearbook advisor for too many years, I had access to curriculum resources for a yearbook class. I didn't have a class for yearbook staffers, so I wasn't able to use all of the materials the company provided. Just be careful that you don't end up as the advisor!

Creative Course Offerings will help save our jobs and the art program in our schools. I will be teaching a new class this coming year on photojournalism. I'll be using Art standards. My principal is very supportive of this course offering.
Any suggestions as to other courses we might offer?

Liz Smith-Cox, Marty Rankin and I are heading home today. We had a great conference. There were over 4,000 art educators here in Baltimore. The weather was ideal and workshops were very informative.

If you never been to a national conference, you need to plan to go next year to Seattle. It will be in March.

Thanks Josh, I'll be using Gimp and auto mode on the camera. I would like for the benefit of this course to be to help out yearbook. So taking candid shots of students will be a priority. I would appreciate ANY and all advice, suggestions, etc.!

Are you going to have Photoshop or a similar editing software like Gimp? Are your students shooting in Auto mode or manually with adjustments to aperture and shutter speeds? I'm right down the street- so let me know any specifics of what you're looking for and I would be more than glad to help.

New State Standards - Josh Keiper

New state standards for the fine arts are going through the reading and adoption processes soon. They recently have been revised and rewritten. A new media arts strand has been added. The time line for release/ adoption of the new standards is for the beginning of next school year.

This year I had the honor to do my presentation on advocacy as the very first session of the conference. It was great to have a large group and seeing familiar faces in the crowd like Jeryl, Liz Smith,Marty Rankin, and Linda Neely. if anyone is interested, the handouts and powerpoint are located up on the NAEA web site under the conference logo.

I have attended several workshops about AP. One session on "AP Blogging" highlighted Lorin Brandt of Rock Hill High School. It was great to see SC in the spotlight. Another workshop on AP on the new digitalizing. I plan to pull all this information together for our AP workshop in the summerl.

Liz Smith also presented her workshop today and found two of her former art students in the crowd. She was showing art teachers how to dance a painting.

We are all proud of Josh Drews who received his award today at the Southeastern Award Ceremony.

Attended some great sessions today and yesterday. Overload after listening from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. We ate at on the patio at McCormick and Schmick overlooking the harbor. Beautiful weather.

Steven I am living vicariously through your blog:-) I am glad you skipped the crab cakes on the corner it sounded like the brewing of an intestinal nightmare.
If you see some awesome technology stuff can you get me a handout or so Photoshop, Premiere/movie maker etc..
Has Meg made it yet? She did an awesome job helping me paint Walk for Autism windows!

I'm at the conference! By car, plane, light rail and foot- I made it to my hotel. Waiting for 3 ladies from Knoxville who will be sharing the room. I'm looking over the sessions for tomorrow and making plans. I would recommend attending any of the Artsonia presentations. I started using them this year and have already received over $6,500.00 in cash and prizes (sounds like a game show)

Several SCAEA members are making presentations at this national convention. I know I will hear of more. I hope they will take the time to post when and where for us. Currently, I know that Cynthia Colbert Seymore Simmons, and Minuette Floyd have scheduled presentations. However, I know there are more...

Tuesday PM-Josh and I arrived. We accidentally ended up on the same plane into Baltimore. It is cold and rainy. Someone texted Josh to try Pickles Bar. We did. It had beer but, the food was OK-. We almost tried some street vendor crab cakes but held out for Pickles food. It was a bad choice but, the beer was cheap and cold.
The convention sight is busy. The museum selection in Baltimore is outstanding. I hear Seymore Simmons has been giving advice on which ones are the best. Delegates Assembly starts tomorrow (Wednesday) at 8am. Josh and I will be there for you!

NAHS state conference - Josh Keiper

Is anyone willing to host the NAHS state conference in March/ April 2011? You need to have an active NAHS chapter and I would be particularly interested in an upstate school hosting. To my knowledge, there has not been a NAHS conference in the upstate at least in the past 8 years.

I like Dick Blick as well. However, my district gets deals from other vendors as well; usually 20% off plus FREE shipping. Definitely shop around.
