Photography and Journalism

Sun Mar 07, 2010 @ 03:17AM

I am assigned the task of creating a course for 7th graders focusing on photography and journalism. This will be a 45 day 45 minute class. Any suggestions from you guys that are already teaching photography (or others) would be greatly appreciated. Where do I start? What should I focus on? We have only digital cameras and a medium quality printer.
I have been looking at the Kodak picture of the day website for examples of photos that we could discuss, etc. Does anyone have books they would suggest? websites? lessons plans that could be adapted?

I will try to get our Photography Teacher to post. She teaches High school but, Has taught a summer program for middle school students. She can give more details but I know she used pin hole cameras and had the students work in teams. I think you need to break the Camera part away from the dark room or Computer editing part. Together there is too much info and steps to deal with.
