As a privilege of SCAEA membership you are cordially invited to send nominations recognizing Outstanding Art Educators in South Carolina

Current SCAEA members may nominate in any of the categories. (Exception: Principals and Superintendents may also nominate for the Promising New Professional category) SCAEA members who meet the established criteria are eligible to be nominated. SCAEA membership is not required for the Business, Principal, Mentor, and Advocacy categories.
SCAEA Awards Program objectives: Recognize excellence in the many outstanding individuals, programs, and supporters of art education in South Carolina. Focus professional attention on quality art education and exemplary art educators. Increase public awareness of the importance of quality art education. Set standards for quality art education and demonstrate achievement through recipients. Provide tangible recognition of achievement, earn respect of colleagues, and enhance professional opportunities for SCAEA members.
Letters of nomination and support must be postmarked no later than June 30th, 2012 and need to include the nominees’ complete name and address, where they teach if applicable, and the nominators NAEA ID number and ALL contact information.

Criteria for Nominations Nominators must be sure to have the consent of your nominee and check that they meet the criteria for the award. If you have any questions concerning eligibility or past awards history, please call or email Steve Bailey for clarification. Deadlines will be observed and nominations are already being accepted. Award selections by the SCAEA Awards Committee will be in August 2012. Awards will be presented at the annual SCAEA fall conference.
****PLEASE NOTE THE MENTOR AWARD – The Dr. Deborah Smith Hoffman Mentor Award. Mentors may be members of the association or other professionals that have inspired, supported, and advocated for individual’s growth as artists and educators.****
Nominees for the South Carolina Art Educator of the Year must: · Have been an SCAEA member for three consecutive years · Demonstrate outstanding teaching and program development · Promote strong advocacy · Have served within the SCAEA · Represent the SCAEA at the NAEA Regional Awards
Nominees for the six Division Level Awards must: · Demonstrate outstanding teaching and program development · Promote strong advocacy · Have a history of active participation in SCAEA at the local and state level · Nominating Levels include: Administration, Museum, Higher Education, Secondary, Middle, and Elementary
Nominees for Outstanding Performance by a Principal must: · Demonstrate consistent support and commitment philosophically and financially to art programs at their schools
Nominees for the Promising Young Professional Award must: · Be a South Carolina art teacher at k-12 level · Demonstrate excellence in teaching art · Demonstrate advocacy for art education on a local, state and national · Exhibit leadership potential within the profession and/or SCAEA · Be within their initial five years of art teaching in South Carolina
Nominees for the Business Supporter of Art Education must support art education through any of these ways: · Monetary donations · Donations of goods, exhibition space · Volunteer support · Publicity and advocacy assistance
SCAEA Service Awards Nominees for the SCAEA Thomas Hatfield Lifetime Achievement Award have demonstrated a life-long commitment to teaching and promotion of art education. Nominees for the Dr. Deborah Smith Hoffman Mentor Award have demonstrated a commitment to mentoring art educators by supporting their professional and personal growth as artists and educators. Nominees for the Distinguished Art Advocate must demonstrate advocacy and leadership in advancing the cause of art education and work to support and improve art education. Nominees may be individuals or organizations. Nominees for Distinguished Service to SCAEA must demonstrate active leadership and commitment to art education through service on the SCAEA Board.
Nominees for the National Art Honor Society Sponsor must demonstrate leadership on the secondary level through sponsorship of an active National Art Honor Society Chapter.
Nominees for the Youth Art Month Award must demonstrate outstanding involvement and promotion of Youth Art Month at any of these levels: local, regional, state, or national.
