Rising Star Piccolo Spoleto celebrates artistically gifted young people. In its 8th year, the program gives young artists the opportunity to participate in the high profile venue of Spoleto USA Festival through its affiliation with Piccolo Spoleto.

This year’s NAHS/NJAHS Conference will occur on Saturday, April 23rd, 2016, at the Columbia Museum of Art from 9:30 am until 3:30 pm. A $10 registration fee includes admission, a veggie OR meat meal from McAlister’s Deli (please specify allergies, etc.) and an event t-shirt. If you weren’t included on the email that included the sign up spread sheet and other information, please email Olivia Thornton at OThornton@horrycountyschools.net so we can get you the correct information. The deadline to sign up is March 1, 2016.

Dear Lower Region Visual Art Teachers,

Join the South Carolina Art Education Association in celebrating the creative students and art programs of our state during Youth Art Month! These celebrations will occur in four regions across the state. The Lower Region celebration will include a week long art exhibition being hosted in Charleston, SC, from Saturday, March 5th–March 19th, 2016, with a closing reception on March 19th. Your K-12th grade students are invited to be part of this exciting celebration. Two elementary, middle, and high school winners will be selected from SCAEA member submissions to continue on to the State show. You may submit up to 4 pieces. Submission deadline is Thursday, March 3rd. Submission is free for SCAEA members; non-members must pay five dollars per work of art. February 1, 2016 Converse College – Young Women in Art Exhibition Written by scaea

Converse is preparing for the Young Women in Art Exhibition and they have exciting news! This will become an annual event hosted by the Department of Art and Design and Converse Admissions instead of a biennial. They will be accepting work the week of February 22 – 26. All works are due on Friday Feb. 26 by 5:00 pm at the Milliken Art Building.

The work will be jurored and then exhibited March 7 – 19 with the closing reception on March 19, 1:30 – 3:00. All artworks can be picked up at the close of the exhibition. They will notify teachers of accepted student works the week of the March 7- 11.

SCAEA Lower Region Art Retreat
You are invited to join in a glass fusion workshop presented by artist and Nationally Board Certified teacher, Carolyn H. Mullinax. Participants will be introduced to the process of glass fusion as they create a functional glass wind chime.

Date: Saturday, February 6th, 2016
Time: 9am-Noon
Location: Windsor Hill Arts Infused Elementary School
8600 William Moultrie Dr.
North Charleston, SC 29420

What to bring: 5×5 inch sketch for wind chime center piece in a square or diamond format. Keep the design simple! We will be attaching 4-5 chimes to this base. You can also wait and create a sketch after looking at samples.

What to wear: closed toed shoes
Important Note: The wind chime will need fired in a kiln. You will receive firing instructions.
Cost: $35 (Cost covers glass materials and shelving paper for kiln firing.)
Deadline for Registering: January 28th, 2016
As materials will be purchased for each participant, the workshop fee must be received by 1/28.
