“Separation of Powers: Framework for Freedom” OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES Qualified Participants: The Law Day Art Contest is open to students, student groups and classes attending a public or private high school, or being home schooled, within the United States and in grades 9‐12 or the equivalent. There are two categories for submissions: Individual and Team. The Team category will consist of two or morestudents. Background: The American Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division’s Law Day Art Contest asks participants to create an art piece exploring the procedural protections afforded to all of us by the U.S. Constitution and why the preservation of these principles is essential to our liberty. 1. Incorporate the national theme “Building Community Through Art” into the design. 2. Include the name “South Carolina” somewhere in the design. 3. Submissions need to be in a vertical format, since all flags will be displayed vertically in the Youth Art Month Museum. 4. Creatively use images that represent SC or represent art. Include the words “Youth Art Month” somewhere in the design. Each art teacher can submit up to three designs. An overall winner will be selected and made into the SC flag. Each design must be submitted on the provided Entry Form. The deadline for submitting ideas is Monday, February 5, 2018. Come rejuvenate through the artistic process as we explore the versatile realm of screen printing! We will learn multiple screen printing techniques from basic stencil to photo emulsion as well as explore different printing surfaces including paper and fabric. Whether you teach kindergarten or high school, you will leave with a new skill set to bring back to your classroom and apply in your own art making. Also included in the workshop is a guided tour of the Gibbes Museum. Learn about the many art educational resources available to you and your students. Following the workshop, you may wish to explore the wealth of art galleries and dinning opportunities found in downtown Charleston. JANUARY 27, 2018 GREENVILLE COUNTY MUSEUM OF ART Please join the SCAEA Western Region for a winter art retreat. Choose from a hands-on workshop with encaustic artist Pat Kilburg or “painting” collage with Judy Verhoeven. Sessions are limited to the first 18 participants to sign up for each class. Spend a fun day at the Greenville County Museum of Art seeing the latest exhibits, learning new techniques, creating personal art, and enjoying time with other art educators!
