2018 ABA Law Day Art Contest

2018 ABA YLD LAW DAY ART CONTEST
“Separation of Powers: Framework for Freedom”

OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES
Qualified Participants: The Law Day Art Contest is open to students, student groups and classes attending a public or private high school, or being home schooled, within the United States and in grades 9‐12 or the equivalent. There are two categories for submissions: Individual and
Team. The Team category will consist of two or morestudents.

Background: The American Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division’s Law Day Art Contest asks participants to create an art piece exploring the procedural protections afforded to all of us by the U.S. Constitution and why the preservation of these principles is essential to our liberty.

Participants should utilize the theme: “Separation of Powers: Framework for Freedom.” An explanation of Law Day and this year’s Law Day theme can be found online at:

Youth Art Month: National Flag Design Contest

We are looking for a few good artists to submit flag designs to represent our state at the Youth Art Month Museum next year at the NAEA convention.

1. Incorporate the national theme “Building Community Through Art” into the design.
2. Include the name “South Carolina” somewhere in the design.
3. Submissions need to be in a vertical format, since all flags will be displayed vertically in the Youth Art Month Museum.
4. Creatively use images that represent SC or represent art.
Include the words “Youth Art Month” somewhere in the design.

Each art teacher can submit up to three designs. An overall winner will be selected and made into the SC flag.

Each design must be submitted on the provided Entry Form.

The deadline for submitting ideas is Monday, February 5, 2018.

Lower Region Mini Conference – Screen Printing for the Classroom

An Art Retreat hosted by SCAEA Lower Region
Come rejuvenate through the artistic process as we explore the versatile realm of screen printing! We will learn multiple screen printing techniques from basic stencil to photo emulsion as well as explore different printing surfaces including paper and fabric. Whether you teach kindergarten or high school, you will leave with a new skill set to bring back to your classroom and apply in your own art making. 

Also included in the workshop is a guided tour of the Gibbes Museum. Learn about the many art educational resources available to you and your students. Following the workshop, you may wish to explore the wealth of art galleries and dinning opportunities found in downtown Charleston. 

Date: Saturday, February 3rd, 2018
Time: 10:30am-1:00pm

Cost: $25 (Non-members $45)
Registration Deadline: January 19th, 2018

Participants will earn 2.5 hours of Renewal Credit. In addition, at the conclusion of the workshop, one lucky participant will get to take home the “Ultimate Screen Printing Kit” worth over $80!!!

SCAEA WESTERN REGION MINI CONFERENCE
JANUARY 27, 2018
GREENVILLE COUNTY MUSEUM OF ART

Please join the SCAEA Western Region for a winter art retreat. Choose from a hands-on workshop with encaustic artist Pat Kilburg or “painting” collage with Judy Verhoeven. Sessions are limited to the first 18 participants to sign up for each class. Spend a fun day at the Greenville County Museum of Art seeing the latest exhibits, learning new techniques, creating personal art, and enjoying time with other art educators!

2017 SCAEA Scholarship Application

*$500 will be awarded to the institution of a student majoring in Studio Art or Art Education at any point in the baccalaureate program of studies before student teaching.
​

*$1,000 Liz Smith-Cox Art Education Major Scholarship will be awarded to the institution of a college or university graduate or undergraduate student that is an Art Education Major at the student teaching or Graduate School Level.

Purpose: To identify, recognize, and financially assist an undergraduate or graduate student who seeks an undergraduate degree or graduate degree in art education/studio art, to increase an awareness of the need for quality art educators; to stimulate an interest in art education.

Goals: To encourage and support artistic and educational growth; to strengthen art education; to support the development of potential art educators; to ensure participation and involvement of potential art educators

Award Notification: The recipients of the 2017 scholarships will be notified on or before September 30, 2017.
