*$500 will be awarded to the institution of a student majoring in Studio Art or Art Education at any point in the baccalaureate program of studies before student teaching.
*$1,000 Liz Smith-Cox Art Education Major Scholarship will be awarded to the institution of a college or university graduate or undergraduate student that is an Art Education Major at the student teaching or Graduate School Level.
Purpose: To identify, recognize, and financially assist an undergraduate or graduate student who seeks an undergraduate degree or graduate degree in art education/studio art, to increase an awareness of the need for quality art educators; to stimulate an interest in art education.
Goals: To encourage and support artistic and educational growth; to strengthen art education; to support the development of potential art educators; to ensure participation and involvement of potential art educators
Award Notification: The recipients of the 2017 scholarships will be notified on or before September 30, 2017.

The Office of Career and Technology Education is requesting student designs for the 2017 Education and Business Summit (EBS). The theme for this year’s EBS is ConneCTEd and Ready: Creating Career Connections. The winning design will be featured on printed and electronic conference materials for 2017. The student or student team with the winning design will be recognized at the opening ceremony of the 2017 EBS on June 25, 2017.
The student designs must be submitted via e-mail to email@example.com no later than Wednesday, January 11, 2017, by the career center director or high school principal. An entry form must accompany each design. Student teams may submit a design; however, it must meet all guidelines outlined in the official rules.
Designs will receive confirmation of submission via e-mail within two business days. Submissions will be assessed with a rubric and the winning design will be notified no later than March 1, 2017. The South Carolina Department of Education Office of Transportation is seeking entries for the 2017 National School Bus Safety Poster Contest.
This year’s theme is “My Driver – My Safety Hero!” which emphasizes the important role the bus driver plays in keeping students safe on and around the bus. The competition is divided into five divisions based on grade level and is open to students in grades K-12. Entries must be received by the Office of Transportation by 4:30 p.m. on July 3, 2017, with winners announced in early August 2017.
First place winning posters in each division will be entered for judging in the National School Bus Safety Poster Contest, with judging held at the NAPT Conference and Trade Show in the fall of 2017.
The South Carolina Overall Contest Winner and first, second, and third place winners in each division will receive a plaque and a framed copy of their posters. Additionally, the Overall Contest Winner’s poster will be used to promote School Bus Driver Appreciation Week in February 2018.
The National Overall Contest Winner’s poster will be used to promote School Bus Safety Week in October 2018.

We are looking for a few good artists to submit flag designs to represent our state at the Youth Art Month Museum next year at the NAEA convention.
• Incorporate the national theme (United through Art) into the design.
• Include the name “South Carolina” somewhere in the design.
• Submissions can be in a vertical or horizontal format, however all flags will be displayed vertically in the Youth Art Month Museum.
• Creatively use images that represent SC or represent art.
• Include the words “Youth Art Month” if possible.
Each art teacher can submit up to three designs. An overall winner will be selected and made into the SC flag.
Each design must be submitted on the provided Entry Form.
The deadline for submitting ideas is Tuesday, January 17, 2017.

On behalf of the Consortium for Gifted and Talented Education, I wanted to share with you an exciting opportunity to submit student work for the Gifted and Talented Conference program cover. The theme is “Forward to the Future!” Each visual art teacher in South Carolina can submit one entry. The student who is chosen as the winning entry will win a cash prize of $200 and the teacher will who submits the winning entry will receive a complimentary registration for the SCCGE 2016 Conference.
